Aladdin is a fully staged ballet with colorful scenery, and more than 240 colorful costumes and lighting. Youngsters are invited to meet Aladdin, the Princess, and the Genie at a complementary post-performance reception.

Students from the Imago School will be performing the play Toad of Toad Hall based on Kenneth Grahame's classic novel The Wind in the Willows. The play version was written by Grahame's friend, and a noted author in his own right, A.A. Milne. The play focuses on Toad's obsession with moving vehicles, the trouble this causes for him, and his friends' (Rat, Mole, and Badger's) attempts to "cure" him.

Sunday, May 6, 2012. 2 PM.  KEYS FOR KIDS Community Performance Gala RAISES FUNDS FOR MUSIC PROGRAMS in PUBLIC SCHOOLS.  Students from over 30 local communities will be performing in Keys for Kids Community Performance Gala at Cary Hall in Lexington, MA. 

The concert will feature Keys for Kids class piano students ages 4-15, from beginner to advanced, performing arrangements of classical and jazz music as 22 electronic pianos “orchestrasâ€Â. Inspiring Keys for Kids piano, violin, harp, and flute soloists will be joined by a capella and chamber music groups from Bedford High School, invigorating drumming from Keys for Kids drumming duo and Bowman school performers, and a joyful singing from Clarke’s Middle C’s group, to show how children from almost 30 towns can work together to produce beautiful music in a harmony of a shared purpose. This is a wonderful family-oriented event, to benefit music education in local public schools. Special discount for Keys for Kids Creative Arts Summer Camp and summer piano groups for beginners will be offered for all guests of the concert.

Enter The Endangered Species Day Coloring and Writing Contest

Do you know Stone Zoo is home to a number of endangered species, including jaguars, Mexican gray wolves, Panamanian golden frogs, and hyacinth macaws? In order to promote awareness of the endangered animals at the Zoo and across the world, Stone Zoo is hosting its third Annual Endangered Species Day Coloring & Writing Contest. Children are invited to draw a picture of their favorite endangered species or write a short piece about the animal that details why it is endangered and what we can do to help.  

Entries are now being accepted in the Animal Discovery Center until May 18 at 4:00 PM. The winners from each age group will receive a certificate of recognition and the honor of having their work framed and displayed in the Animal Discovery Center.

Endangered Species Day is observed nationally by numerous agencies, environmental groups, zoos, parks, aquariums, wildlife refuges, and other organizations on the third Friday of May, and is an opportunity for people across the country to learn about the importance of protecting our nation’s wildlife.

WHO: Kids ages 3-10 are welcome to participate and will be judged in three age groups (ages 3-4, ages 5-7, ages 8-10).

RULES:         
1. Submissions (one per person) must be on standard 8 ½ x 11 inch paper (letter size).
2. Pictures must include your favorite endangered species and should be done in pencil, crayon, or marker. NO chalk, paint, glue, or computer illustrations.
3. Written pieces can be presented in the form of a paragraph, poem, acrostic, or any other creative delivery and should be typed or neatly hand-written.
4. Entries are due to the Animal Discover Center no later than 4:00 PM on Friday, May 18.

Franklin Park Zoo Centennial Celebration

Saturday, May 19, 2012. 10 am - 5 pm. Zoo 100 Day will be the first event of a series of centennial celebrations throughout the summer. Be sure to join us for a fun-filled day that will include zookeeper encounters, entertainment and more! The Jumping Monkeys, a children's musical group, will perform from 10:15 - 11:00 AM and from 11:15 AM – noon (weather permitting). Watch as some of the animals, including the tigers, African wild dogs, keas and others, receive birthday themed enrichment items including ice treats and paper mache “cakes†filled with treats. The first 1,000 visitors to the Zoo will receive a complimentary mini cupcake or frosting shot, courtesy of Sweet Cupcakes! In addition, on Saturday, May 19, Sweet Cupcakes will award its 100th customer with a Zoo party! The lucky winner will have the chance to throw his or her own party at Franklin Park Zoo with up to 20 friends.
